Living on a 30-acre property nestled in the peaceful valley by Lumsden, Saskatchewan, my life is deeply connected to nature and animals. The property is always buzzing with the happy chaos of six dogs, five horses, two curious llamas, and a lively flock of chickens and one bunny. Every day brings a new rhythm, whether it’s feeding time, grooming the horses, collecting fresh eggs, or simply soaking in the calm of the wide open land. The animals aren’t just part of the farm, they’re part of the family.
Summer is a particularly magical time here. The days stretch long and golden, and the nearby river becomes a favourite retreat. There’s nothing like heading down to the water with the dogs, watching them leap, splash, and play while the sun reflects off the river. These swims are more than just fun, they’re moments of connection, joy, and shared freedom between human and dog.
I've had the joy of co-owning a charming gift shop in Lumsden for the past 12 years, as well as a seasonal Ice cream shop for the past 10 years. Both have beed a wonderful way to connect to the community and share a little happiness with locals and visitors alike.
Life here also includes a passion for dog sports and classes. Whether it’s agility, barn hunt, or other dog sports, there’s always a project underway with one or more of the dogs. We host disc night on our farm and connect with other great dog owners.
Training is both a challenge and a joy, a chance to bond even deeper with the dogs while building their skills and confidence. Surrounded by a family of animal lovers, this lifestyle isn’t just a choice, it’s a way of life, rooted in care, companionship, and the daily rewards of living in harmony with animals and the land.
How it started: We got involved with dog activities and dog shows by doing local dog classes and being a member of a local dog club. Another member, Janet of Wiretap Dachshunds, introduced us to the Conformation world and gave my 10 yr old daughter a start in Junior handling. She showed many of Janet's Wiretap Dachshunds and her own American Cocker Spaniel to their championships and group placements. I was the mom helper and if I was needed, I hopped into the ring and helped out. Watching her develop skills, confidence, and a deep bond with dogs was incredibly rewarding.
Junior Handling had taught her not only the technical aspects of presenting a dog but also the values of sportsmanship, patience, and perseverance. We spent many years travelling around the prairie provinces and out east to compete in Junior handling and to help friends show their dogs and my daughters cocker spaniel Sadie. Those years were filled with unforgettable adventures and countless memories!
We took a break from dog shows for about 10 years as life got busy with kids sports, school, starting and running 2 businesses, activities and life!
Now the kids are grown and I have more time for the dog world again and jumping back in full force!
In the summer of 2023, Ellie came into our lives and now we are back into the show ring and doing dog sports ! It has been a fun and exciting journey, every challenge, every win, every loss, and every bond we've built along the way has been unforgettable.
We are incredibly proud of how far we have come and even more excited for whats ahead, as we continue to grow and shape the future of Solasta Golden Retrievers!
As a responsible CKC Golden Retriever breeder, my foremost priority is producing dogs that exemplify the breed’s hallmark traits: sound temperament, correct structure, robust health, and true versatility. I am committed to breeding only from thoroughly health tested parents who meet or exceed breed standards and demonstrate the steady, friendly, and intelligent temperament that Golden Retrievers are known for.
My goal is to preserve and improve the breed through thoughtful pairings that contribute to well rounded dogs capable of excelling as family companions, service animals, and performance or working dogs. Each puppy is raised in a nurturing environment with early socialization to ensure they are confident, adaptable, and ready for a wide variety of roles.
We are not an on demand Breeder, we will only have 1-2 litters per year or every other year! Researching your breeder if very impotant. If you are looking for a breeder in an other province or for a certain breed, reach out and we can direct you to another responsible breeder.
